Thabo Bester, a South African prisoner who was born on May 4, 1984, and also goes by the name Thomas Motsepe, escaped from jail in 2022 by pretending to be dead.

Bester hails from Johannesburg, South Africa’s Gauteng region. Thabo Bester was nurtured by his grandmother while he was growing up.

Thabo Bester was found guilty in 2011 of raping two women after using Facebook to lure them to a hotel. He was found guilty of killing and raping his lover, Nomfundo Tyhulu, a year later.

The Department of Correctional Services declared on May 3, 2022, that Bester had passed away following the start of a fire in his single cell at approximately 03.35 am.
